No, It’s Not the Same

The other day we were sitting around and one of my students compared Tiger Woods to David Letterman and I was stunned.
I’m certainly not going to defend Tiger Woods, one more professional athlete screwing around on his wife and destroying his family. (Surprise, surprise)
But David Letterman was sleeping with women he worked with. Women he had power over. Women who got the chance for television time. Now, I’m a journalism teacher in Wichita Falls, TX. I have no idea if that airtime was attached to “Services Provided,” but it’s infuriating that the David Letterman scandal was “nudge, nudge, wink, winked” away with eye rolls and “oh that Dave. He’s a dirty old man.”
And it’s infuriating that more women weren’t outraged enough to make their voices heard.
But worse than that is the fact that the young ladies in my classroom don’t see what the big deal is.
