To my favorite authors

When you’ve written some of the most tension filled, passionate, amazing character driven romance novels that make me cry and laugh and slow down reading as I close in on the end because I don’t want the story to be over PLEASE, please, please don’t suddenly change the way you do business, at least not without warning. I’ve been disappointed in books twice this week by writers I love. Both chose to close the door on love scenes and forget about the romance in a romance novel. No tension, no developing relationship. BORING!
I was soooo looking forward to reading a good book this week after being so sick I couldn’t even look at a book for 10 days. Thankfully I still have two to read and I bet they’ll be great.

NOT fun

Usually the first week back to school is a blast. All the teachers go out to eat and put our classrooms together and reconnect after the summer. This year I was sick. BAD sick. And it lasted FOREVER! I felt like the Nyquil commercial girl. I couldn’t even read!
Today is the first day I’ve felt decent in a week. I’m still not normal, but I’m on the mend. Whew.

UGHHHHH!

I ‘m still sick. I can’t believe I had all summer to catch a cold and I did it the day we went back to school.

Still Studying

Still taking apart books. Quite the eye-opener. I’ll talk more about that later in the week.
I have a cold. ūüė¶ Ought to make teacher work days and inservice  entertaining.

Revisions Still

I set out the revise my book and decided to take a week and study the line I’m targeting instead. Armed with sticky notes and several Silhouette Romantic Suspense novels both new and already read I started deconstructing. Only now I’m 1/3 through Beth Cornelison’s Danger at her Door and I keep forgetting to deconstruct. It is SOOOOOO fantastic. Every single scene is packed with emotion. Her characters are far from perfect. Every additional character seems to add to the conflict of the main story. It’s amazing. I’m glad I chose it to work on today. It’s the perfect send-off to a new school year.
I’ve been at work for a week, but my year REALLY starts tomorrow. I’m excited.

Revisions

Ugh. My skeleton isn’t so great. For the most part the story moves from scene to scene with no real purpose and the conflict is flat.
The dialogue is great.
What I hate worst: the way I have the hero and heroine relive the same conflict four times in four ways when it was RESOLVED the first time.
MAN this story needs work. I’ve enjoyed the revisions I’ve done with the last two books. REALLY enjoyed it. I’m trying to remember how to enjoy this. How to look at each scene and wring the emotion out of it. But right now, I’m pretty disgusted.
Tomorrow will be a better day.

Revising

I’m working on revisions using Michelle Style’s GMC workshop from e-Harlequin. The other day Mary wrote about scene hooks. I’m trying to work on that too.
I have 16 pages so far. I need MORE.
In one week we start back to school. I’ll go up this week and work on my classroom.
I can’t get in too much of a hurry though, or the writing suffers.

Read it. It will inspire you!

GMC

Michelle Styles led an amazing class on GMC last month on eHarlequin.
It’s truly one of the best explorations of GMC I’ve seen. She also has handouts on her website. She links to them in the class.

If you’re doing 70 Days of Sweat, you probably already know this. There’s a new site devoted to the project. It focuses on motivation, so it’s great for writers whether they’re participating in the challenge or not.
Check it out.

Diana Peterfreund’s been answering questions on her blog. VERY informative.

Today is my local RWA meeting. I can’t wait.
WOO HOO!!!!
