Now writing fiction as Elizabeth Lee
April 17, 2010—
As a veteran journalism teacher, Mary Beth Lee has worked with multiple principals and superintendents in an effort to protect the constitution and free press in high school publications programs in a small North Texas town. She once took her life in her own hands when she laughed at a beloved former football coach turned administrator who fell down the small flight of stairs outside her closet-type classroom in mid-gripe about a Beavis and Butt-Head story (dear GOD what would the man do with South Park today?!).
Actually, that principal was one of the best admin’s I’ve ever had. He taught me the most important lesson I’ve ever learned in teaching. Treat every kid like your own, and if you have to talk to a parent, put yourself in their shoes for the entire conversation.

John 3:16-17, NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

I love the advice your admin gave! I will write that advice and post it in my journal this week. Thank you for sharing!
